Topic and Purpose:

The Immigrant Women Project has put on this initiative, facilitated by Dr. Cleia Sagster who is going to be holding space for women to talk about struggles and challenges during these unprecedented times. This community talk will explore some of the challenges of raising children in a new and unfamiliar culture/country from a cross-cultural perspective.

  • Mothering Across Cultures: What are some of the challenges of raising children in a new and unfamiliar culture/country?
  • Reframing Family: What ways have you found to maintain/follow the values about family that are important to you?
  • Overcoming Disconnection: Where do you find support for yourself as a parent and for your family? What social structures have been available to support you as your and your family deal with life’s changes (e.g., church, mosque, cultural community organization, other)?
  • How have the COVID-19 social restrictions impacted the availability of these supports? What has changed?
