Topic and Purpose:

The Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society and the BC Francophone Program invite you to join us for this  weekly Edition of Movement and Mindfulness.

Via Webex

During this self-isolation time Zumba nd Mindfulness is a great alternative to traditional fitness programs:

Holding space for movement, participants will have fun while doing exercise during this period. The more you enjoy your exercise routine, the more likely you are to stick with it. Many people say they have so much fun dancing that they forget they are actually exercising.

This session will be led by Ximena Londono a Zumba instructor with 7 years of experience. She will make us enjoy, laugh and move with her Latin rhythms. Originally from Cali, Colombia, Ximena works helping immigrants settle and integrate in Victoria through the Francophone Immigration Program. She is passionate about helping others and loves connecting with people arriving from different parts of the world.

To spice up her life, she teaches Zumba in her spare time: she has always enjoyed sharing her cultural heritage through dance & music.

In her class, she brings together a variety of rhythms from around the world to celebrate the richness of our diversity, have FUN and build meaningful community relationships.

We will combine it with some mindfulness and stretching exercises provided by Brittany Dunstan, a very inspirational instructor. Since early adulthood, Brittany has enjoyed discovering yoga in all its forms, and has made it a regular part of her life. In 2016, she decided she wanted to be able to share the gift of yoga to children and adults and became a certified yoga instructor. Later she took additional training to provide yoga for kids and seniors, in both Chile and in Victoria. Her teaching experience has included Kids Yoga at Mind in Motion, Oak Bay; yoga for all ages at MAOA, North Saanich; trauma-sensitive classes at the Cool Aid Downtown Community Centre; and has offered free classes both outdoors and indoors for the past year.

Structure:

  • 30 min Zumba dance workout
  • 30 min Yoga and mindfulness

We aim to support mental and physical health by:

  • Body Tuning
  • Creating a state of Happiness
  • Heart health boost
  • Calming the mind
  • Coming together as a Community
